The gloves are off again between Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand, and frankly, it's getting more entertaining than half the matches they're supposed to be analysing.

Our former defender has launched another verbal volley at the Manchester United icon, this time over a cheeky social media post that Ferdinand couldn't resist sharing ahead of Sunday's showdown between the two clubs.

Ferdinand, who left TNT Sports back in May to focus on his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents, posted a photograph on X showing himself celebrating a United goal against us with a dejected Carragher visible in the foreground. His caption was simple enough: "Caption this."

Carragher's response was anything but diplomatic. "Have some of that bruv, you Scouse xxxx" probably.......Not like you to make sure you were in the picture of someone else's goal. You now carry on this ritual by hanging around mixed zones, bothering star players & asking your lackeys to film it!" he fired back.

It's classic Carra, really. Never one to let a dig go unanswered, especially when it comes from someone in a red shirt that isn't ours.

This latest exchange is just another chapter in what's become a properly entertaining rivalry between two legends who clearly can't stand each other's punditry styles. Ferdinand's response revealed just how much that stung. "Every time I see him it's all love man. I'm a loving guy, we hug and we shake hands and have a little laugh. I don't understand why he came in with hostility, it's a hostile energy and I don't understand it," he said.

The former United defender seemed genuinely confused by the animosity, pointing to their England days together. "He used to carry my boots when we were with England, he always showed me love," Ferdinand added.

"He's always messaging me, that's what I'm saying, it's madness to me. He always messages me, we've been in England teams together, like i said he carries my boots. He's always shown me love."

Ferdinand concluded with what sounded like a genuine plea for understanding: "I don't know where that energy has come from and that's all I want him to tell me is where that energy comes from. Is it real energy or not? I need to know so when I see him I'll ask him."

There's something almost tragic about Ferdinand's confusion here. He genuinely seems to think they're mates who just happen to disagree about football, whilst Carragher appears to view their relationship through the prism of Liverpool versus United, pure and simple.

The truth is, this feud perfectly captures the intensity that makes football rivalries so compelling. These aren't just two pundits having a professional disagreement; they're representatives of two clubs that have spent decades trying to outdo each other.

Carragher embodies everything Liverpool supporters love about their own: passionate, uncompromising, and never willing to give an inch to United. Ferdinand, meanwhile, represents that United arrogance that winds up every Red on Merseyside.
