Liverpool's pursuit of Bradley Barcola has taken a significant turn after Paris Saint-Germain reportedly opened the door to his departure following stalled contract negotiations.

The 23-year-old winger, who has been linked with the Reds as they plan a summer overhaul of their wide options, appears to be edging closer to an Anfield move after PSG's stance shifted dramatically. According to L'Equipe, the French giants are "no longer closed to the idea of selling Barcola" after talks over a contract extension broke down completely.

Barcola's current deal runs until 2028, but negotiations between PSG and his representatives have hit an impasse. The report states there has been "still no progress" in discussions, despite talks being resumed after PSG's Champions League campaign concluded. The club's position is clear: they "only want to keep players that are fully committed to the project."

This development hands Liverpool a major boost in their pursuit of attacking reinforcements. Barcola made 49 appearances for PSG this season but found himself playing second fiddle to Georgian superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in his preferred left-wing position, struggling for starts in the biggest matches.

The timing couldn't be better for new head coach Andoni Iraola, who faces the task of rebuilding Liverpool's wide options after a disappointing campaign. With Mohamed Salah and former manager Arne Slot both having departed, and Federico Chiesa open to a move, the Reds are expected to undergo a significant attacking overhaul.

Liverpool's interest in Barcola isn't new. The club tracked him last summer as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz but ultimately decided against signing a direct replacement, preferring to give teenage prospect Rio Ngumoha valuable minutes. That decision proved both inspired and problematic.

Ngumoha delivered brilliantly when called upon, becoming the club's youngest ever goalscorer with a winner against Newcastle United at St James' Park, just four days before his 17th birthday. The teenager impressed across 29 appearances, adding another goal and assist to his tally. However, the senior wide players failed to match their previous campaign's output when Liverpool claimed the title in Slot's first season.

Whilst Slot was right to carefully manage Ngumoha's development, restricting him to 1,065 minutes across those appearances, the lack of reliable senior alternatives became glaring. Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo couldn't replicate their previous form, highlighting the need for proven quality in wide areas.

Barcola represents exactly that quality. PSG paid Lyon €45m for his services three years ago, and they'll be looking to extract maximum value from any potential sale. The French international's availability comes at a time when Liverpool have already made contact with RB Leipzig over 19-year-old Yan Diomande, though the Bundesliga side are demanding around €130m for their breakout star.

Interestingly, PSG are also reportedly interested in Diomande, leading to speculation that Barcola could become available if the French giants secure the Leipzig winger ahead of Liverpool. The pieces appear to be falling into place for such a scenario.

Arsenal remain in the picture as well, with both Premier League clubs monitoring developments closely. However, Liverpool's need appears more pressing given their attacking exodus and Iraola's mandate to refresh the squad's wide options.

PSG manager Luis Enrique is reportedly keen to retain Barcola despite the contract impasse, but the club's hierarchy seem prepared to cash in rather than risk losing a valuable asset for nothing further down the line. Their "fully committed" stance suggests they won't be held hostage by players whose futures remain uncertain.

For Liverpool, this represents a golden opportunity to secure a proven performer who fits the profile Iraola is looking for. Barcola's pace, directness, and ability to operate across the front line make him an ideal candidate to inject life into Liverpool's attack.

With PSG's door now ajar and Liverpool's summer rebuild gathering pace, expect this story to develop rapidly as the transfer window approaches.
