Liverpool have been handed a ringing endorsement for their reported pursuit of two high-profile wingers, with former midfielder Dietmar Hamann describing potential deals for Yan Diomande and Anthony Gordon as a "dream summer" for the Reds.

The 19-year-old Diomande has emerged as one of Europe's most coveted young talents after an impressive debut campaign with RB Leipzig. The Ivory Coast international joined the German side from Spanish outfit Leganes for €20million last summer, having played just 10 games in La Liga, but has quickly established himself as a standout performer in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool's interest appears genuine, with the club understood to have already made contact with Diomande's Roc Nation agency regarding a potential move to Anfield. However, any deal would come at a premium, with Leipzig reportedly valuing their prized asset at more than £70million.

Hamann, who knows German football inside out, believes the teenager has already demonstrated he's ready for the Premier League's intensity. "He's outstanding," the former Liverpool midfielder said. "He's certainly the best player in the Bundesliga this season."

The praise doesn't stop there. Hamann highlighted Diomande's versatility and natural ability, noting: "He plays off the left or the right, he's two-footed, with pace and trickery. He's a wonderful player, not only to watch but also very efficient and effective."

Crucially, Hamann doesn't see the step up to English football as too much too soon for the teenager. "I know football is different in England and some players have had problems (adapting) this season, but with the pace he has, he's very hard to catch. I wouldn't think it's too early for him."

The timing could be perfect for Liverpool, who face significant changes to their forward line. With Mohamed Salah departing, Hugo Ekitike sidelined with a long-term Achilles injury, and Cody Gakpo struggling to replicate Luis Diaz's impact on the left flank, reinforcements are clearly needed.

Hamann sees Diomande as exactly the type of signing that could reinvigorate the fanbase. "I think you need to get the fans behind you and Diomande could do that," he explained. "(Liverpool) need a signing like Diomande to really make the punters look forward to the new season again."

The double swoop scenario becomes even more intriguing when Anthony Gordon enters the equation. Liverpool came close to signing the Newcastle winger two years ago before the Magpies pulled the plug, and the England international now finds himself linked with £75million interest from Bayern Munich.

But Hamann believes Anfield remains the perfect destination for Gordon. "There's a place for Anthony Gordon at Liverpool. That's a move I can really see because Liverpool need a player in that position, and I don't think there are too many better ones in the Premier League than Anthony Gordon."

The versatility factor appeals to Hamann, who noted Gordon's ability to operate across multiple positions. "He also plays up top at times. He's versatile, he's an excellent player."

Interestingly, Hamann expressed scepticism about Gordon's reported Bayern links, questioning whether the player would accept a backup role. "There's talk about him coming in as a backup for Luis Diaz (at Bayern Munich), and he's just too good and too expensive for that," he said. "I don't think he'd be happy starting one or two games a month."

The prospect of landing both players clearly excites the former Liverpool star, who described the potential double deal as transformative. "Signing Diomande and Anthony Gordon would be a dream summer for Liverpool," Hamann stated.

However, he also offered a note of caution based on recent experience. "They've got to be careful. I thought last season, after the success of the season before and the signings, that there was no way they wouldn't win the league."

Despite that warning, Hamann remains optimistic about what such signings could mean for Liverpool's immediate future. "Certainly, if they get these two players and they stay injury-free, I think they're sorted for the next few years."

With Diomande expected to feature prominently for Ivory Coast at the upcoming World Cup, his profile is only set to rise further. The question now is whether Liverpool can move quickly enough to secure their targets before the summer feeding frenzy begins in earnest.
