Liverpool's transfer planning continues to move forward even as the club searches for a new manager following the dismissal of their previous boss after two years in charge.
Yan Diomande appears to have made his decision. The 19-year-old RB Leipzig winger is reportedly favouring a switch to the Premier League, with Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain both competing for his signature according to reports from Spain.
Despite the managerial uncertainty at Anfield, Liverpool have allegedly assured the Ivorian international a significant position in their squad next season. It's a guarantee that PSG, even as back-to-back Champions League victors, cannot offer given their wealth of attacking options including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola.
Diomande has been earmarked by numerous observers as the potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. His first Bundesliga campaign certainly supports that theory, with the teenager netting 13 times and registering 10 assists across 36 appearances in all competitions. The attacker is understood to possess a release clause in the region of £86m.
While Liverpool pursue their managerial search, with discussions expected to commence this week regarding a potential appointment, the club's transfer business appears unaffected by the uncertainty in the dugout.
Meanwhile, a separate deal could see movement in both directions for Liverpool. Reports emerging from Italy suggest the Reds' potential signing of Denzel Dumfries could facilitate Curtis Jones moving to Inter Milan as part of a swap arrangement.
Jones, who is approaching the final year of his deal, has attracted attention from the Serie A champions. However, recent reports indicated a significant gap remained between the two sides, with Inter struggling to match Liverpool's £25.9m asking price for the midfielder. The Italian club reportedly can only stretch to £17.3m, leaving a substantial £8.6m shortfall.
According to reports, Liverpool have proposed including Dumfries in discussions to bridge that valuation gap. The Netherlands international is understood to have a £22m release clause written into his contract, though it remains unclear whether either side intends to pursue further negotiations concerning both Jones and Dumfries.
The potential departure of Jones would mark the end of a long association with the club for the 25-year-old, whilst any move for Dumfries would address Liverpool's defensive options.
With managerial discussions expected to intensify this week and transfer targets already identified, Liverpool appear determined not to let uncertainty affect their summer planning.
